Your Weekend Guide for Things to do in Minneapolis: January 25-27

Ryan Platzke

We’re really deep into winter now, Minneapolis. Sometimes, things can start to feel a little dark, dreary, and cold as we leave January behind and head our way into February. What better way to brighten up the darkest weeks of the year and warm up from the cold than with some comedy? From improv to stand-up, professional comedians to open mic opportunities, we’ve got you covered this weekend as you look to laugh your way through the Twin Cities Region.

Friday, January 25
Lorna Landvik: Party in the Rec Room at the Bryant-Lake Bowl Theater
Minneapolis, MN

This weekend is the second to last weekend to catch Lorna Landvik’s one-woman improvisational comedy show at the Bryant-Lake Bowl Theater. Local author, actor, and all around character Lorna Landvik is back to throw another comedy bash for Minneapolis’s enjoyment. In what has become a January tradition for many in the region, Landvik creates characters on the fly that are inspired by current events, audience members, and, yes, margaritas. For more information, including ticket prices and availability, visit the theater’s websitetoday.

Saturday, January 26
Mark Poolos at the Royal Comedy Theatre
Hopkins, MN

Local boy makes good!Mark Poolos was born and raised in Edina, Minnesota—not so far from Minneapolis! He has travelled nationally making a name for himself as a clean, corporate comedian. In the past, his comedy and attitude has found him compared to the likes of Adam Sandler and Louie Anderson. Poolos says that his biggest dream is to do a film that folks actually go out and see, so make sure to hit up his show before he makes it to the big time. Tickets cost $17 and the show is for those 21+.And make sure you bring your IDs to prove it! For more information, visit the event’s website.

Sunday, January 27

You’ve spent the weekend laughing at the comedy styling of professional comedians—what’s left but for you to give it a whirl yourself? Head on over to the Hexagon Bar for their weekly Kill It! Comedy Open Mic event. Hexagon is known for being one of the first stops for any up and coming musical act coming through town, and it’s looking to get a comedy scene going as well.
